		<description>What a great idea for a website!

The people that actually design these screens almost never get any kudos. It&#039;s usually a larger company that sub contracts out to a smaller company or a freelancer. I&#039;ve been doing screen graphics/playback/FUI (whatever you want to call it) for about 10 years now and even though I&#039;ve designed screens for some of the biggest movies of the last couple years I&#039;ll never see my name in any of the credits (not that I care if I do).

This is a unique corner of the film/television industry that I&#039;m proud to be part of. I&#039;m really looking forward to the new site. A site to put faces to the designs that have inspired me over the years.

PS - The Island still has some of the best &quot;FUI&quot; ever!</description>

		<description>A good question and personally there are several reason for it. They are not ‘official’ in any design sense, but part of my thinking.

The corner bevel is a handy little device. Without it, it is just a bar of color. The problem you have on-screen, is that subleties are lost. The camera rarely lingers and does not go in that close. You have to imply that something is something or does something by other means. In user interface work this is called affordance. You can use the same techniques in the screens to quickly and visually say this is or does something. It is not just a bar, it is a title, a tab, a button. You cannot see the fine edge beveling on the button and you do not want to use too distracting colors as the focus should be elsewhere on screen.

The other reason of course is inspiration. I always loved what people like The Designers Republic did for games like Wipeout and have always enjoyed integrating elements like that into the work.</description>

		<description>Don&#039;t sell your work short -- there&#039;s a lot to be said for the crazy user interfaces you see on screen! I design user interfaces for part of my job, and there&#039;s a lot of group-think that goes on in a task like that. Buttons and widgets all have standardized forms, and react in pre-specified ways to clicks and button presses and tabbing and whatever. 

I think it&#039;s good to see stuff like this, where someone got to let his imagination go and come up with new ideas. After all, you&#039;re working on solving a real problem: displaying information in a short time and in an  engaging way. You&#039;ve got a different audience in mind than most UI designers, sure, but I&#039;ve seen some great ideas -- and usually a much keener eye for color and layout than many of my colleagues have.

As for your request: I think any such exhibit would have to include old-school stuff like the Death Star graphic from Star Wars (y&#039;know, the wireframe one with the dish in the wrong place that many Bothans died to, etc, etc) and definitely the UI from Jurassic Park. (I forget, was that purporting to be UNIX?) It was hard to believe at the time that those would ever seem creaky and outdated! If you&#039;re feeling daring, a small section on teletype interfaces like in WarGames might be fun, too.</description>

I also got the idea of making some sort of gallery of great screen graphics or FUI a few days back, but I think I&#039;ll just cherry pick some images from movies I love and have handy and put them on Realmac&#039;s Ember service, in a special collection.

I don&#039;t have any insight in who created the graphics, and it&#039;d never be as complete as your initiative, so I&#039;d love to help out with your idea if I can.</description>

		<description>Yes, I&#039;m one of the legion who found you through Twitter and very glad I did. I&#039;ve always been impressed with the kind of FUI&#039;s (see... it&#039;s started already) I&#039;ve seen in films, without really realizing that, duh, of course there is someone designing them. Being an illustrator myself, my lack of realization, in hindsight, is pretty ridiculous. So it was really exciting to stumble upon your work (thanks Twitter!). My interest is really piqued now. I do hope you&#039;ll put together some kind of resource for learning more about FUI&#039;s (or whatever they wind up being know as). If you do, I&#039;ll be a frequent visitor! Thanks</description>
